Cochon BYOB
Dear Foodiez,
I am on a never-ending quest to build you the most comprehensive brunch list in Philly! My most recent addition to the list is Cochon!
A twitter follower … shout out to @leahjg! I gotta tell you, Twitter rocks! I’ve been connecting with some of the coolest people and getting some bonus advice! Oh, I drifted! Back to Cochon. @leahjg suggested that I try the Monte Cristo, but I was in the mood for eggs. Honestly, I was in the mood for the Pancakes with banana walnut caramel sauce, but I was doing Ice Cream Warz later that afternoon, so I opted for eggs! I mean gotta watch that figure, right? The Eggs Cochon…. this baby is a show stopper! cheesy foccacia bread, piled high with smoked, pulled pork. Two perfectly poached eggs perched on top, with just a drizzle of hollandaise. Served with a side of home fries.
Where do I begin raving!?! I know, the home fries. Cubes of potato that had the slightest crunch on the outside, yet were soft and warm on the inside, with a faint hint of bacon flavor. Are these deep-fried? NO! How would they get that bacon flavor? How did they cook these? I asked the waitress, who asked the chef……… the answer….. BOTH. The are deep-fried for a short time and then pan-fried, I’m assuming in bacon grease! I’m telling you, the best I’ve ever had!!!
Ok, the Eggs…. This is quite possibly, the most unusual take on Eggs Benedict that I’ve come across. I’m a country boy, so I lovez me some pulled pork! The flavor was so deep, so warm, every bite was just like a Kettle Drum solo on my taste buds – deep, powerful and loud! A flavor so distinct, and powerful… yeah, I loved it! I may need a cigarette just thinking about how good it was
Don’t judge foodiez, don’t judge. The whole thing was piled high on top of cheesy foccacia bread. Honestly, they could have served it on a piece of moldy bread and I’da ate the whole thing!
FYI, two key points – they take reservations for brunch & the coffee was bangin’!
