Vegetarian? No problem Honey!
Dear Foodiez,
I introduced 3 “Honey’s Sit-n-Eat” virgins to my favorite brunch noshing joint. I honestly don’t know if it was by chance or choice that they all ended up with vegetarian/pescetarian meals – see what they thought after the JUMP!!!It wasn’t until the very moment that I was editing the pictures for this post that I realized every one of us had a vegetarian brunch, although, I am excluding mine on a technicality.
Turns out Honey’s offers a few tofu brunch selections and uses a veggie sausage on classic breakfast items make them ovo-lacto vegetarian or pescetarian friendly.
Now if you’re a proud card-carrying carnivore – DO NOT stop reading! There are very – very few things that I will not eat! Remain open-minded – the days of vegetarian food tasting like styrofoam are gone! As vegetarian eating has become more mainstream, the industry has grown and produced some very flavorful and delicious food choices!
Nick, who is not a vegetarian, yes, I’ve seen him chow down on some meat, raved about his brunch choice! After I clarified what Nova Lox was, he was all over this one….
A classic dish, scrambled eggs with Nova Lox and onions. A savory, flavorful brunch option that is pescetarian friendly especially when served with Honey’s famous Cheese & Onion potato latke! They are amazing! The buttermilk biscuit is something I get EVERY SINGLE TIME!! Light flakey, sweet and somehow savory at the same time!
Tommy takes his food choices very seriously and was thrilled to find something that was vegetarian, low in sugar and locally grown!
The tofu scamble is just millimeters away from being vegan. Honey’s uses butter in their home fries, so you’ll need to order grits, to my understanding, they are vegan friendly. I would also recommend that you request the scramble fried in oil as well, just to be sure. Honey’s also serves a country white, wheat or rye bread as a second side. I assume that the food quality at Honey’s would help to classify these breads a vegan friendly.
I had the open-faced biscuit and veggie sausage sandwich with gravy. I am really confused as to why Honey’s would put veggie sausage on this, when their gravy is described as “sausage gravy” on another menu item. Trust me, I’ve had the other menu item and it’s the same gravy! It was incredibly delicious, spicy, flavorful and totes satisfying! I had to throw this out as a vegetarian option on the possibility of sausage in the gravy.
This is why I love Miss Honey, she’s got something for everyone and it’s all good – all the time.
