Old Shoe Friends Nosh

We Noshed & Laughed

I have some of the best neighbors any ‘mo could ask for!  Marc & Donna (the french fry couple) are like my building mom and dad.  Whenever I need anything, I run to them, borrow a vacuum, need a ride, borrow a ladder, THEY’RE THE BEST!   Then there’s Kara, she’s not pictured, but she’s just one of the sweetest women you’ll ever meet who bakes with lard!

I was hanging in the gayborhood at Cafe 12, when Donna texted, and invited me to Famous 4th Street Deli for a nosh.  I jumped at the chance to hang.

We were all totally scared of the “zaftig” sandwiches.  If you’ve not been – GURL – these sandwiches are stupid, ridic, insane big!  Like good for 2 people to split for lunch and dinner!  Check it!

Donna had a hot dog (yawn)!  Marc had split pea soup (yawn)!

Kara got the most points for her order – Kreplach, soup with beef stuffed dumplings!    She said it was good, i didn’t try it.  Think chicken soup with big balls.  ;-) Big Dumplings stuffed with beef.

I had the stuffed cabbage, my Momma made these when I was growing up, we called them Pigeons – I have no idea why!  So delicious, ground beef and rice in cabbage in a red sauce.

We also ordered a side of french fries.  It was ridiculous, there were so many!  I only had 2!  My new trainer from Optimal Sport Health Clubs would be so proud!  He’d be even more proud to know that I didn’t eat the FREE chocolate chip cookie that they give free, with the check!

If you’ve not been to Famous 4th – it’s a Philly experience.  Go hungry and split everything!

i'm an average writer with an above average love of food. at 40 years old, i needed something to do outside of work that feed my soul. i decided to combine my love of eating, my average writing skills, and my overly hyped opinions and my big mouth to create foodrulez.com. if you like it, you like it, if you don't - go eat at the mall.

This Central Pa girl can’t turn down a doughy dumpling! Thanks for meeting to nosh – it was fabulous catching up. There’s always a good story or two to accompany Barry Eichner.
